Building Community
Diversity is not only a prominent feature in Hilary Metzger’s intellectual and artistic activities. She is also committed to leading musical events which bring together performers and publics from a variety of backgrounds and ages who usually do not socialize together.
For over 20 years, through the outreach programs of the Orchestre des Champs Elysées, she has designed and participated in projects that introduce live classical music to people who have never experienced it, and helped children and adults become more active participants in such events.

Since 2010, she has directed Orchestre Cryptonique, an ensemble which brings together professional, amateur and student musicians, ages 8 to 80. For the past three years, high school students from an economically disadvantaged Paris suburb who have musical interests or instrumental training play in the orchestra or sing in the chorus.
